Can You Swim With a G-SHOCK? Water Resistance Explained

Short answer

Yes: Casio rates every stock G-SHOCK to 200 meters (660 feet, 20 bar), which covers swimming, showering and the ocean. A standard G-SHOCK is not an ISO-certified dive watch; Casio's Frogman GWF-A1000 is. Modified or custom watches can lose sealing, so confirm a custom piece with the seller before you swim.

What does 200 m (20 bar) water resistance mean?

A 200 m rating means the watch passed Casio's pressure test equivalent to 200 meters (660 feet, 20 bar) of water. It is a test rating, not a promise that you can dive to 200 meters with it.

Casio itself says water resistant is not the same as waterproof. Seals and gaskets keep water out, and like any rubber part they age, so a watch that is years old or has been opened is not guaranteed to match its original rating.

Can you shower or swim with a G-SHOCK?

Yes. Casio says a 200 m G-SHOCK is suitable for swimming, showering, swimming in the sea and non-professional diving. That applies to the stock GA-2100, GA-B2100, GM-2100, GW-6900, GA-700, DW-5600, GW-M5610, GMW-B5000, GA-V01 and G-7900, and it covers pool laps, the beach and snorkeling.

Can you scuba dive with a G-SHOCK?

Regular G-SHOCKs are rated for non-professional diving but are not certified dive watches. For scuba, Casio's Frogman GWF-A1000 carries ISO 6425 diver's certification to 200 m and adds dive-time measurement.

G-SHOCK water resistance by model

Every model we build on carries the same 200 m rating in stock form. What differs is the build: custom finishes and swapped parts are the variable, not the model.

Does a custom G-SHOCK keep its water resistance?

Not automatically. Painting, coating, swapping a bezel or case, or opening the case back can affect how well a watch seals, so the factory rating may no longer apply. Bezelwright confirms the rating of a specific piece on request: send us the product name before you swim or submerge it.

When any G-SHOCK's battery is replaced, use Casio service or a watch shop that replaces the gasket and pressure-tests the case.

How to keep a G-SHOCK water resistant

A few habits keep the seals doing their job.

  • Rinse it with fresh water after the ocean or a chlorinated pool, then dry it.
  • Have the gasket checked and the case pressure-tested whenever the battery is replaced.
  • If you see condensation under the glass, keep it out of water and have it serviced.

FAQ

Is a G-SHOCK waterproof?

Casio calls G-SHOCKs water resistant, not waterproof. Stock models are rated to 200 m (20 bar), which covers swimming and showering.

Can I wear my G-SHOCK in the shower?

Casio lists showering as suitable for 200 m G-SHOCKs. On a custom watch, confirm the specific piece with the seller first.

Can I swim with a Bezelwright custom G-SHOCK?

Custom modifications can affect water resistance. Send us the product name and we will confirm the rating for that specific watch before you swim.
